Microplate Spectrophotometers
Microplate spectrophotometers (absorbance plate readers) measure optical density simultaneously in dozens to hundreds of wells of a 96- or 384-well plate, speeding up routine assays by orders of magnitude compared with cuvette-based instruments. They are the workhorse of immunochemistry and biochemistry: enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), enzyme kinetics, DNA/RNA and protein quantification (BCA, Bradford, Lowry, A260/A280), colorimetric kits (MTT, nitrate/phosphate assays), microbial growth monitoring at OD600 and turbidimetry. Modern readers are based either on a monochromator (free choice of any wavelength without interchangeable filters) or on a CCD spectrometer (full well spectrum in a fraction of a second). Most models are equipped with a thermostat and shaker for kinetic and cell-based protocols. We select and supply instruments to match the laboratory's budget and requirements — in addition to the models below, the Molecular Devices SpectraMax ABS Plus (190–1000 nm monochromator, PathCheck technology) and Tecan solutions are available; for multimode applications (fluorescence, luminescence) we offer multimode platforms.
